2021 Town of Banff Election Coverage

Banff councillors Barb Pelham, Hugh Pettigrew and Chip Olver filed the mandatory disclosure statements. All candidates, regardless if they win or lose, are required to file by March 1, 2022.

All municipal election candidates, regardless of being self-funded or accepting contributions, are required to file a disclosure statement with the municipality.

Incumbents Chip Olver, Ted Christensen and Grant Canning re-elected. Kaylee Ram, Barb Pelham and Hugh Pettigrew round out the council table.

“Since our body clock follows the sun and the sun is so delayed, it’s going to be really hard to get up and get out of bed and go to work in the morning,”  said Michael Antle, a circadian rhythm expert in Calgary.

In Banff’s last community social assessment, residents indicated growing visitation, now at more than four million visitors to Banff National Park a year, and the associated traffic congestion that goes along with that was affecting their quality of life and sense of belonging.

Other than Councillor Peter Poole, all incumbents are running in the Oct. 18 municipal election. There are four hopefuls in the mayoral race and 14 candidates vying for a council seat.
