2021 Town of Canmore Election Coverage

Canmore council candidates discuss the elusive resort municipality status and other possibilities in raising income from the increased visitation being experienced in the Bow Valley.

Development is a polarizing issue in all communities, but the Three Sisters Mountain Village area structure plans highlighted its priority in the community as election candidates weigh in on the path forward for affordable development.

The first Canmore municipal election candidate forum officially kicked off the race to the Oct. 18 vote, as all 11 council candidates and two of the three mayoral candidates were on hand for the forum hosted by the Bow Valley Builders and Developers Association.

The final field of municipal candidates in Canmore are now known, with three people running for the mayoral seat and 11 up for the six councillors positions.

“I love our town and I love our community. It's a great place. I've enjoyed my first time on council and it's allowed me to represent the voices of the community. I'd like to be involved in the decision making process that will obviously guide the direction of our town now and in the future.”

“Affordable housing is critical. … The vital homes are vital to our community. The last two terms of council, we really brought a lot to the market and we’re continuing to do that. It’s essential for the community.”

“My No. 1 priority in the decision was the community has been great to us. The people are awesome and when we moved here 11 years ago, they helped a lot and I’m wanting to give something back.”
