Police charge Edmonton man with second-degree murder in 2016 death of baby boy

Edmonton police say a man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a five-week-old boy.

Police say officers went to the Stollery Children’s Hospital on Sept. 11, 2016, after receiving a child welfare complaint.

They say the baby was admitted to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died two days later.

Police say the Edmonton medical examiner performed an autopsy on Sept. 15, 2016, but further testing was needed to determine the cause of death.

In December 2020, the medical examiner deemed the death to be a homicide.

Police say they have arrested and charged Tyler Hodgson, who is 24, and he is expected in court Tuesday.
