jfj10270320

Edmonton police say they have arrested a suspect in a fatal crash that left three people dead.

Officers responded to the single-vehicle crash about 2:20 a.m. Friday and found a 20-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman and an unidentified man dead inside an Audi sedan, which had struck the wall of a nearby business.

Police say the male driver fled the scene before the officers arrived.

Investigators say Oscar Benjumea of Ontario was arrested at a home and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Benjumea, who is 25, faces multiple charges, which are to be sworn once his condition is stabilized in hospital.

Investigators have since notified the families of the passengers killed in the collision and believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
