BOW VALLEY – A 3.9 magnitude earthquake shook the Bow Valley on Saturday (Feb. 13) evening.
Around 6:30 p.m., buildings and homes started rumbling and the sound of a loud "boom" was reported.
According to USGS, a website for real-time earthquake information, the earthquake hit five kilometres north of the mountain resort town of Banff.
While early reports pegged the quake at a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale, Natural Resources Canada later confirmed it was a 3.9 magnitude seismic event.
Canmore Fire Chief, Walter Gahler, confirmed on Twitter.
Natural Resources confirms a 4.4 earthquake. No reports of damage in the Town of Canmore. Crews back in quarters on standby.

The Town of Banff tweeted about the seismic event.

In October 2014, Banff was hit by a 2.7 magnitude earthquake.
