BANFF – The Women’s Executive Network has included Janice Price, president and CEO of the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, as part of its list of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women.

The Toronto-based organization announced the list of powerful women in November, and Price was included in the BMO arts, sports and entertainment category.

“One thing I always like to remind people is what a big business the arts is,” Price said in a press release. “When you factor in film and digital, our sector is bigger than the forestry, fishing and auto industries combined.

“It is a big economic driver in this country. I am constantly fighting this battle that the arts are not simply a nice-to-have, but a must-have.”

Price has been at the helm of the Banff Centre since 2015 and focused her time and energy on re-branding the arts education institution. She launched a new strategic plan, opened a newly renovated student residence and founded a leadership-training program for the next generation of arts administrators.

Prior to coming to Banff, she served as the founding CEO of the Luminato Festival in Toronto, an annual arts event. She was also the president and CEO of the Kimmel Centre for the Performing arts in Philadelphia from 2002-06 and vice-president of marketing and communications and interim executive director at New York’s Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts.

She has 30 years of experience as a senior executive in leadership roles in the arts and entertainment sector in Canada and the U.S.

“We are proud of Janice’s success, and thank her for her dedication to build Banff Centre into one of our country’s most exciting post-graduate arts schools. We applaud her on this significant achievement,” said David Weyant, Chair of the Board of Governors of Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
