BANFF – Allan Buckingham, a contender in the October 2021 municipal election, is the first to file his campaign disclosure statements to the Town of Banff.

The statements filed by Buckingham – who narrowly lost in his second attempt to get a seat at the council table with 790 votes, just 41 behind successful candidate Hugh Pettigrew – show he had total campaign contributions and expenditures of $1,751.64.

Candidates are required to disclose names and addresses of donors whose contributions exceed $50. In Buckingham’s case, well-known environmental activist couple Harvey Locke and Marie-Eve Marchand each contributed $62.50 to his campaign.

Contributions to Buckingham that were $50 or less totalled $865.

He had no contributions pre-campaign, which can be up to a limit of $5,000 per year or $10,000 from the candidate’s own funds per year.

All candidates, regardless of being self-funded or accepting contributions, are required to file a disclosure statement with the municipality.

None of the successful candidates in the election, including Mayor Corrie DiManno and councillors Chip Olver, Grant Canning, Ted Christensen, Barb Pelham, Hugh Pettigrew and Kaylee Ram, have filed statements yet.

Disclosure statements must be filed no later than March 1, 2022.
