BANFF – A sub-committee is being formed to come up with a recruitment process to replace Town Manager Robert Earl.

The sub-committee is made up of Mayor Karen Sorensen, Deputy Mayor Grant Canning, head of human resources Barbara King and two department directors in order to move the recruitment of the town manager position forward.

Council has asked King to do up a brief strategy document outlining the Town’s goals, resources, time lines and approach to the recruitment process, for example, whether or not to hire a firm to find the right town manager, as well as salary range among other factors for consideration.

“This first committee is to have this conversation, to talk about and make recommendations on what the recruitment process will look like,” said Mayor Sorensen. “They’ll also talk about what we’re going to do in the interim.”

Earl, who has been Banff town manager since 2004, accepted an offer to be chief administrative officer of Colwood, located 10 kilometres from Victoria. B.C..

He takes over from Colwood’s CAO Ian Howat, who retires on June 30. Earl’s last day on the job in Banff is Aug. 5.
