BANFF – Parks Canada CEO Daniel Watson is moving on as part of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s shuffle in the senior ranks of the civil service.

Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Watson, who has been chief executive officer of Parks Canada since 2015, will become Deputy Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, effective October 9. He replaces Hélène Laurendeau.

Michael Nadler, Parks Canada’s vice-president of external relations and visitor experience, will assume the role of acting CEO while an appointment process for a new CEO is underway.

“Further information will be available in due course,” wrote Audrey Champagne, media relations officer in Parks Canada’s national office, in an email.
