“Our current notification requirements go beyond the Municipal Government Act requirements for notification of development permits, and beyond the typical notification practices of other Canadian municipalities,” said Banff development planner Emma Sanborn.

“I can actually confirm officially that this past summer we did have to wait 45 minutes for an ambulance from out-of-town while we were doing CPR on an individual," said Banff fire chief Silvio Adamo.

“We’re seeing a lot of holiday traffic and folks really need to pay attention to road conditions and drive to those conditions – it’s winter,” said Silvio Adamo, Banff's fire chief.

“I so appreciate the homeowners who are taking action on this – $30,000 is a very small amount of money compared to a property lost to a wildfire or a neighbourhood lost to a wildlife.”

“Banff wants to be a leader, not a follower, so I really love this made-in-Banff approach and I love that it puts us on the map in terms of moving the needle on our goals around waste diversion and zero waste to landfill," said Mayor Corrie DiManno.

“The need has been established and accented by the numerous residents who have had to leave Banff at vulnerable times in their lives to find care with suitable accommodation," said Councillor Ted Christensen.

“We continue to approve these residential units out there, which I think is a fabulous use of space. I’ve called it the Bushwick of Banff before – it must be so cool to live in an industrial compound – but there are services that are likely lacking out there for the residents who are living there," said Mayor Corrie DiManno.

“I think we really need some good news… when you have a big vision and you are operating at the scale that wildlife needs, it does make a difference,” said Jodi Hilty, co-author of the paper and Y2Y’s chief scientist and president.
