A key recommendation in a report commissioned by Banff and Lake Louise Hospitality Association is expansion of the governance and finance committee to include business and community leaders to encourage increased dialogue, transparency and policy development.

“Unless it’s piling up on the street, no one really cares about garbage. Many people think it goes in the bin, out to the curb and someone picks it up. That person doesn’t just take it home. It’s important to understand where your garbage and recycling go. When they understand what goes into waste management and they look at the SAEWA project and wonder why we’re not already doing it.”

“We’re hoping to achieve about 10 per cent above the 2019 levels. The caveat on that is dependant on the visitor population coming back strongly and that’s unknown with COVID-19 restrictions and the general comfort with travelling."

Banff’s town council has made some changes to its dollar transfers to the municipality’s water and sewer savings accounts to allow time for the community to recover from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.

These programs supporting businesses have proven to help save jobs and sustain local economies during the roller-coaster of closures and restrictions necessary to protect the safety of our community."

“The Aster is already so highly sought out because of the opportunity to purchase at entry-level in Banff, which we know doesn’t happen often,” said Banff Mayor Corrie DiManno.

Incumbents Chip Olver, Ted Christensen and Grant Canning re-elected. Kaylee Ram, Barb Pelham and Hugh Pettigrew round out the council table.
