“Grizzly bear predation of mountain goats is relatively common, and I guess the mountain goat was successful in this instance and turned the tables on the grizzly. These mountain goats are big animals and those horns are very sharp.”

“Parks has said what their decisions have been on the two proposals already for gondolas and they said a new proposal is unlikely to arrive at a different conclusion,” said Coun. Poole.

With federal election voting day just a few weeks away, Sarah Zagoda has announced she is looking to secure the Banff-Airdrie riding for the New Democratic Party (NDP).

“The system is broken, there is certainly corruption in all major parties. The basic ability of an MP to represent his constituents is gone. Everybody kind of knows that if you don’t do the bidding of the leader of your party, your career is going to be a short one. The people who have been a long time are there because they’ve learned how to be quiet, how to keep their heads low and how to kind of play the Ottawa game. I think people are sick of it."

Voters in the Bow Valley had their chance to hear from local candidates in the lead-up to the Sept. 20 federal election.

“We’re getting to the point where the freedoms of the many are being compromised by the few,” Coun. Peter Poole said, referring to those who are vaccine hesitant or refusing to get immunized.

“I have worked with almost all of the major parties, both provincially and federally. What is concerning to me is the disconnect between the bureaucracies of government and the political platforms and policies people hear during election time.”

Incumbent Banff Mayor Corrie DiManno and long-time resident Karen Thomas have filed nomination papers to run against Brian Standish in the mayoral race, while second generation Banffite Kaylee Ram has declared her candidacy for a council seat.

“It’s not every day that I discover glass or debris, however it is often enough that those of us that use the dog park on a regular basis are being very cautious because the potential is there for some very serious injury.”
