A draft policy that will be presented to Banff's finance and governance committee on Monday (March 22) sets out what types of projects should be funded by the net revenues from paid parking – estimated to be $1.1 million a year.

“If we’re not careful, including in the Y2Y region, we’ll lose that connectivity and we won’t see these kinds of movements like wolf 2001.”

“The bottom line is if we don’t take the time now to preserve those gravestones, they’re going to be gone, and the lichen and moss and bacteria will erode them away forever.”

“This new system will maintain three-hour parking for residents and provide options for visitors – free or pay parking just like in other cities’ downtown areas,” Mayor Karen Sorensen said.

Lake Minnewanka Loop will be closed to vehicles Mondays through Thursdays from May 1-20 and the eastern end of Bow Valley Parkway will once again be off limits to vehicle traffic this summer.

A man was killed in a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1 Friday morning after his vehicle rolled over and entered the nearby field, Cochrane RCMP said.

“Frankly, it’s not a precedent that I am about to start after 16 years on council," said Mayor Karen Sorensen

“In essence, our piece of the pie is growing, so we’re going to pick up a bigger portion of the education tax levy, which is disappointing in this year when obviously the opposite has happened,” said Chris Hughes, Banff's corporate services director.

“We found if Three Sisters builds out and the town of Canmore has a whole bunch of new development, we’re going to see an additional six per cent reduction in connectivity.”

“This wolf began to show signs of dispersal over the past six months, as it first travelled south into Spray Valley Provincial Park, and into British Columbia, before finally venturing further south."
