“With it being an extremely reliant tourist economy, that has put Banff in a unique situation compared to most other jurisdictions where tourists aren’t coming in,” said Sandy White, a former Banff resident and cofounder of Rapid Test and Trace Canada.

Banff and Lake Louise Tourism has scaled back SnowDays Jan. 20-31 based on advice from health officials to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“I think as we go into our budget season we have to ask ourselves what can we live without for a year," said Banff Councillor Peter Poole.

“I think it would be really appropriate for us to look at which single-use items are the most problematic in our jurisdiction and develop a tailored approach to either manage, or in a lot of cases eliminating them all together."

Parks Canada is reviewing a new report from CPAWS, which recommends a human use management strategy for busy Banff National Park.

“In terms of a full recovery, it’s unlikely, but the pack is looking after this wolf and as long as that continues to happen, this wolf will probably likely continue to live and exist.”

“People must be aware that even though the weather has settled, dangerous avalanche conditions remain throughout much of western Canada. There is a serious potential for large, human-triggered avalanches at this time.”

“That predation could come from wolves, coyotes, cougars, and/or black and grizzly bears, but we see a lot of activity by the Bow Valley wolves around close to the townsite.”

BANFF – The town of Banff is known for its community Christmas cheer. A slate of events is scheduled every year to help bring people together in celebration of the holiday season.

“That means a lot to me,” said Rev. Howard Thornton. “That even if I can’t be with them in person, we’re still able to share in some way, and I’m just wanting to encourage people, maybe, that they might find some hope and some happiness at Christmas if they can’t be with their children in person."
