BREAKING: Fatal crash closes Highway 2 south of the Okotoks overpass

Emergency crews responded to a serious two vehicle collision on Highway 2 southbound, south of the Okotoks overpass in Foothills County on June 17.

FOOTHILLS COUNTY, Alta — As of 4:30 p.m., Okotoks RCMP advise that the collision scene has been cleared and Highway 2 is now fully open.

Emergency crews are on scene of a fatal two-vehicle collision on southbound Highway 2, south of the Highway 2A overpass.

EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux said when EMS arrived they found one adult female deceased. An adult male, driving the second vehicle, was subsequently declared deceased on scene. The crash took place shortly before 9 a.m. and there were no other occupants in either vehicle.

Brideaux said the cause is being investigated but it is believed that a vehicle travelling north on the highway entered the southbound lanes.

Highway 2 southbound is restricted near the overpass with Highway 2A, south of Calgary.

RCMP collision reconstruction investigators are currently on scene. Please expect delays if travelling on this Highway as the investigation is ongoing.
