Rochfort Bridge house fire claims five lives

Two adults and three children are dead following a Dec. 5 house fire in Rochfort Bridge.

At around 4 p.m. Thursday, Lac Ste. Anne County Fire Services, along with the RCMP, responded to a report of a fire in Rochfort Bridge, which is located about 10 kilometres southeast of Mayerthorpe on Highway 43. RCMP report that despite extensive efforts by fire services, the residence was destroyed.

At 1:30 a.m. Dec. 6 the Mayerthorpe RCMP were informed by the fire services on scene that one occupant of the home was found deceased, said RCMP media relations officer Deanna Fontaine via a release. After the fire was completely extinguished around 9 a.m. a more extensive search was conducted and four more bodies were found. According to a Canadian Press report, Fontaine says there's nothing to indicate the deaths are criminal.

Fontaine added the RCMP, along with Fire Commissioner's Office officials, are now investigating the blaze.
