Search and Rescue locate missing Saskatchewan senior

An 80-year-old Saskatchewan man missing in Northern Alberta was located after being outdoors for nearly 24 hours.

COLD LAKE, ALTA – Not long after an official RCMP press release was sent out sharing information about a missing 80-year-old Saskatchewan man, the Cold Lake RCMP detachment received a call from Search and Rescue that Richard Embree had been located safe.

Embree was last seen in the area of Garnet Beach at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, but hadn’t been seen or heard from since.

Search and Rescue members from Cold Lake, Bonnyville, St. Paul, and Lac La Biche had been looking for the Saskatchewan man who had been reported missing after failing to return back from the area.

Just after 4 p.m. on June 22, RCMP had issued a missing person's report asking for the public's assistance in locating the 80-year-old.

They had further asked that residents stay away from the Garnet Beach area while search and rescue operations were under way.

At about 4:15 p.m., the Cold Lake RCMP detachment received a call from the Search and Rescue operations on the ground stating that Embree had been found along the shoreline conscious and responsive, RCMP Cpl. Shauna Dolle, with the Cold Lake detachment, told Lakeland Today.

“He was out there overnight, but he will be looked at by EMS,” said Dolle.
