Thirty per cent of all active COVID-19 cases in Alberta are now variants of concern.
On Tuesday, the province released new COVID-19 data showing another 576 new cases diagnosed in the past 24 hours, of which 332 were variants of concern.
The provincial "R" value – the average number of people someone with COVID-19 will infect – was 1.09 across the province from March 22 to March 28, with the Edmonton zone sitting at 1.10, the Calgary zone at 1.12 and the rest of Alberta at 1.04.
There are 7,975 active cases in the province with 301 people in hospital and 58 in intensive care.
The province ran 8,078 tests on March 29 for a provincial positivity rate of 7.7 per cent.
Four more people have lost their lives to COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, 1,987 Albertans have died.
