BEIJING – Bow Valley athletes have been busy chasing podiums at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Games.
Alpine: Competing at his third Games, Trevor Philp flew to 10th place in the men's super-G on Monday (Feb. 7), an individual Olympics-best for the 29-year-old former Banff Alpine Racer.
“It felt good and a little messy,” said Philp in a press release. “I was inspired by Jack who charged so hard and made mistakes and wasn’t losing much time, so I knew that was the mentality I had to have.
“There were a few turns that you had to nail today, and it's such a fine line between risk and reward.”

Biathlon: Biathlete Scott Gow scored Canada's best Olympic result in men's individual, taking fifth place in 20km race at a time of 49:53.0 on Tuesday (Feb. 8). The fifth also equals the best result by a Canadian biathlete at the Games.

Gow shot 19/20 and was 1:05.6 behind first place Quentin Fillon Maillet (18/20) of France who crossed the line at 48:47.4.

Anton Smolski (20/20) of Belarus snagged silver and Johanne Thingnes Boe (18/20) of Norway took bronze.
Canadians Christian Gow (18/20) finished 24th, Adam Runnalls (17/20) was 33rd and Jules Burnotte (17/20) was 36th.
Cross-Country Skiing: Canada's Dahria Beatty finished inside the top 30 in the women's sprint free on Tuesday.
The skier finished 28th in the qualification round at a time of 3:23.54. In the qualification round, the top 30 skiers advance.
Beatty finished fifth place in the first heat.

Canada’s Cendrine Browne (35), Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt (40), and Laura Leclair (58) didn’t get past the qualification round.
In the men’s sprint, Canada’s Graham Ritchie (34), Olivier Leveille (54), and Antoine Cyr (56) didn’t qualify for the heats.
Speed Skating: In his Olympics debut, Canmore's Connor Howe skated to fifth spot in the men's 1,500m speed skating race on Tuesday.
Skating in the final pair against Norway's Allan Dahl Johansson, Howe sprinted to a time of 1:44.86.
The 1,500m Olympic record was broken twice during the race, first by Netherlands Thomas Krol, who won silver, and then by countryman and winner Kjeld Nuis at a time of 1:43.21.
South Korea's Minesok Kim took bronze.
