CANMORE – Alberta Health Services will not announce any new year's babies in 2021.

In a media advisory issued Wednesday (Dec. 30), Alberta Health Services stated given the current restrictions for healthcare facilities and challenges from COVID-19, there will be no announcements for the annual new year's babies born in communities, including at the Canmore General Hospital.

"Given the current restrictions in place at our healthcare facilities and ongoing health system challenges brought on by COVID-19, Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health will not be identifying or announcing this year’s New Year’s babies," stated the advisory. "We hope to resume this practice in 2022.

"While we understand that this is a traditional news event, it is simply not possible to invite media into our facilities at this time, or facilitate media interviews. In addition, our labour and delivery teams are extremely busy and priority must be given to patient care in these extraordinary times."

If the family that has the new year's baby for the Bow Valley wishes to be featured in the Outlook after they leave the hospital, please contact [email protected]
