CANMORE – Canmore's Beckie Scott is one of eight remarkable Albertans that were recognized with the Alberta Order of Excellence this week.

Scott, who is originally from Vermilion, Alta, but now calls Canmore home, is Canada's most decorated cross-country ski racer, has stood up for fair play in sports through her work with the World Anti-doping Agency and works to empower Indigenous youth through sport with her non-profit Spirit North.

“The Alberta Order of Excellence members for 2019 are innovators and trailblazers who have spent their lives and careers working to lead positive change for people in Alberta, across Canada and around the globe," said Lt.-Gov. Lois Mitchell in a press release. "I thank them for their outstanding service and for inspiring us all to share our best with the world.”

It is the 40th anniversary of the Alberta Order of Excellence, the province's highest honour for citizens to receive. This year's investiture brings the total members of the order to 181. In addition to Scott, other notable Albertans added to the Order of Excllence include Robert Burrell of Sherwood Park, Bonnie DuPont of Calgary, Katie Ohe of Springbank and Frances Wright of Calgary.
