Bow Valley artists raising funds for Ukraine

“This is for the people of Ukraine and we’re trying to push it as much as we can,” said local artist Pascale Ouellet, who works under the name of ‘Bigoudi’.

CANMORE – Bow Valley artists are joining forces to raise money for war-torn Ukraine following the Russian invasion.

More than 50 artists, which includes some artists from outside the community including Calgary and Vancouver Island among other places, have created a Facebook page to host a silent auction of original works in support of the people of Ukraine through the Red Cross Ukraine Fund.

Bidding closes on Sunday (May 15). Bids are collected through commenting and 100 per cent of proceeds will be donated. As of late last week, donations sat at $12,768.

“This is for the people of Ukraine and we’re trying to push it as much as we can,” said local artist Pascale Ouellet, who works under the name of ‘Bigoudi’.

All the auctioned pieces were on view at Elevation Gallery on Main Street as of Sunday, May 8.

To bid, go to Bow Valley Artists for Ukraine on Facebook. The fundraising campaign was initiated by artist Wanda Ellerbeck and Elevation Gallery owner Cheryl Baxter.

The donated pieces range from original pottery from Cabbages and Kings valued at $40 to an original 60X40" painting titled When Seasons Collide by Pat Sullivan valued at $4,250.

Ouellet said they were getting new original works every day.

“Once the bid closes, the winning bidders will have to make a donation to the Red Cross and bring in their receipt to get their artwork,” she said.
