CANMORE – Anyone driving in the Bow Valley will need to make sure they’re not speeding and have their seatbelt on.

The Canmore RCMP is partnering with Bow Valley Traffic Services for March to have enhanced focus on proper wearing of seatbelts and aggressive driving behaviours such as speed and stop sign violations.

“The best defence against serious injury in the event of a motor vehicle collision is wearing a properly fastened seatbelt,” stated a release from the Canmore RCMP.

Police are reminding drivers are responsible for themselves and passengers under 16 are wearing seatbelts. The fine for an infraction is $162.

The Canmore RCMP is asking people to give themselves extra time when heading somewhere, with the majority of speeding tickets going to drivers who are in a rush or running late. The fine for failing to stop at a stop sign is $405.

“Respectful use of our roadways will contribute to the safety of all motorists, cyclists and pedestrians,” the release noted.
