Canmore RCMP issue travel advisory for Trans-Canada Highway

CANMORE – The Canmore RCMP is advising that road conditions along the Trans-Canada Highway in the Bow Valley are "very poor" Sunday morning (Dec. 20).

The travel advisory was issued at 7 a.m. and stated that between Highway 1X and the Banff Park Gates that road conditions have been affected by a winter snow storm overnight. 

"A winter storm has blown in with heavy, wet snow," wrote Cpl. Sabrina Clayton in a press release. 

"There is little to no visibility at times with some accumulation. On and off-ramps are also icy. Travel is not recommended at this time." 

Environment Canada also issued a wind warning for Canmore and a winter storm watch on Sunday morning.

According to the warnings, 30-50 centimetres of snow is expected by Tuesday evening (Dec. 22) in southwestern Alberta, while strong winds with severe and damaging gusts of up to 100-130 km/h are expected to continue on Sunday.
