UPDATED: One person killed in serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 1A near Canmore

A 35-year-old man from Calgary was killed in a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 1A, about four kilometres south of Canmore, on Sunday morning (Jan. 15).

CANMORE – A 35-year-old man from Calgary was killed in a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 1A, about four kilometres south of Canmore, on Sunday morning (Jan. 15).

The Canmore RCMP responded to a head-on collision between two vehicles just after 7 a.m.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 54-year-old man from Exshaw, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police didn't release the names of either driver.

The highway has re-opened after it was shut down into the afternoon as police investigated.

“RCMP continue the investigation into the cause of this tragic event,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, media relations officer of the Alberta RCMP media group in a news release.
