CANMORE – Unionized employees with the Town of Canmore will get a slight increase in pay thanks to a new collective agreement signed between the Town and CUPE Local 37.

According to the agreement, employees will get a 1.5 per cent wage increase in 2019 and 2020 as well as $2.75 per hour for on-call work, a 25 cent increase.

“We feel that what we’re bringing forward to you today does represent a fair agreement both for the union and for the Town and there isn’t a better deal to be reached by going back to the table,” said Therese Rogers, general manager of corporate services.

She said the two parties reached an agreement on June 26 after six formal meetings. Council unanimously approved the new agreement on Aug. 20.

The new agreement also includes updated language for unpaid leaves, paid leaves and benefits as well as changes to the language used to describe hours worked to provide more flexibility for winter months and seven day per week scheduling.

The term of the agreement is from January 1, 2019, until December 31, 2020.
