Canmore United wins third league championship in a row

“We were defending champions, so we had high expectations. We want to keep it up. It is not going to be easy because everyone wants to beat us. We always bring our A-game to every single weekend.”

CANMORE – In a continued run of dominance, Canmore United has once again earned the championship in the Bow Valley Soccer League, picking up its third championship in a row.

On the path towards that championship, the team had an undefeated season of six wins and three ties.

“We were defending champions, so we had high expectations,” said Canmore United’s coach/player Libor Kreml. “We want to keep it up. It is not going to be easy because everyone wants to beat us. We always bring our A-game to every single weekend.”

One of the reasons for the continued dominance of the team, according to Kreml, is the squad has not changed much over the past eight to 10 years.

“We have had the same solid squad. We never know what to expect from other teams because their squads are always changing,” Kreml said. “Everybody is still practising hard, and we have some newcomers to spice up our team a little bit.”

The team practises twice a week, and according to Kreml, everyone practises as hard as they can. The team also has a strong comradery between the members.

“We are not just playing,” Kreml said. “We are socializing together, and we work harder for each other. We got to tournaments, and we stay together. The social part is the main thing. It is what keeps us together.”

The team has a league tournament this weekend, and then another tournament in September, before work begins on preparing for the next season and a possible fourth championship.

As for this weekend, it will be a more relaxed atmosphere for the team.

“It is great to see all the other teams. It is still competitive but it is the end of season so there are a lot of jokes going on,” Kreml said. “It is fun.”
