Drivers charged with speeding on Trans-Canada Highway between Cochrane and Canmore

COCHRANE – RCMP have charged two drivers for travelling 199 km/h on the Trans-Canada Highway between Cochrane and Canmore on Monday (April 27).

According to a press release, the Cochrane RCMP Integrated Traffic Services Unit was conducing enforcement on the highway around 1:30 p.m. when two vehicles were observed travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed. 

Laser speed readings of 199 km/h in the 110 km/h speed zone were measured for both vehicles along the stretch of highway between Highway 1X to Bear Hill Road and officers were able to safely stop both vehicles. 

"Even with COVID-19, Alberta integrated traffic officers continue to be on the lookout for unsafe driving behaviours," said Superintendent Gary Graham in the press release.

"We are committed to keeping Albertans safe during this pandemic and that includes on our highways."

A 24-year-old male from Calgary and 21-year-old male from High River were charged with speeding and will have to attend Cochrane Provincial Court on Aug. 21.
