LAC DES ARCS – Exshaw Fire-Rescue and Canmore Fire-Rescue are battling a fire in the area of Lac des Arcs and Highway 1.

The fire is ongoing and water bombers were called in, according to a post on the Canmore Fire-Rescue Facebook page.

Canmore Fire-Rescue later reported on Twitter that the fire was being held as of Friday night and Alberta Wildfire would be “monitoring and hot-spotting overnight.”

Alberta Parks also closed the Razors Edge Trail and Middle Lake and surrounding areas until further notice due to the ongoing wildfire. A release stated the Middle Lakes area was being used by helicopters to fill their water buckets.

There are also two other fires to the north of the Town of Banff that are ongoing as of Saturday in the Rocky Mountain House forest area, according to Alberta Wildfire.

An extreme fire danger and fire ban was issued earlier in the week for Banff, Yoho and Kootenay national parks.

Environment Canada also issued special air quality statements for much of southern Alberta, including Banff, Kananaskis, and Canmore as smoke continues to blow into Alberta from ongoing wildfires in British Columbia.

The Outlook will report more information as the situation develops.
