CANMORE – Four men were charged with property theft-related charges and weapons were seized after complaints led to police locating the men.

Canmore RCMP said they had received several reports from residents of vehicles and garages being broken into on Sept. 17. Police said witnesses saw a large white truck, which led to RCMP locating and stopping the vehicle led to charges against the four men.

When the vehicle was stopped, police found a sawed-off rifle, numerous knives, machetes and a sword. Police also found keys to a vehicle that had been stolen earlier that night, which led to a Ford Escape being recovered.

Police said stolen items that were recovered included mountain bikes, welders, power tools, garage door openers and tablets.

Cpl. Gina Slaney, the media relations officer for the RCMP’s southern Alberta district, said there were 14 separate incidents of theft between 2nd and 3rd avenues and 13th and 17th streets in Teepee Town.

“Most of the property has been identified and returned to its owners,” the media release stated.

The men are facing charges of possession of stolen property and careless storage of a firearm. They are also facing counts of breaching release orders, prohibition orders and undertaking.

Police didn’t release further information about the four men.
