CANMORE – A worn leather brown jacket might not seem worth a lot to some people, but for Carol Scott, it was one of the most valuable items stolen from her vehicle in Canmore this month, because it belonged to her son who died in 2017.

Parked on Rundle Crescent, across the bridge off Rundle Drive, Scott said her neighbours described the residential area as a "quiet street."

But when she woke up last Wednesday (Dec. 11), Scott noticed all of the doors and back hatch on her vehicle parked in the driveway were open with approximately $2,000 worth of items taken, including a worn brown jacket, a filet knife in a leather sheath and a black camper stove – all items that once belonged her late son.

"The things most important [to me] have no value to anyone else," Scott explained over the phone, noting she is offering a reward to anyone who brings the items back.

Scott said while it was two years ago when she lost her oldest son, it still feels recent.

"That brown jacket no one else is going to want or get anything for ... I have very little to hang onto," she said.

Among the things stolen, Scott said she is also missing a brown shag throw, a mountain equipment sleeping bag, a mountain equipment blue backpack with the tags still on, another smaller red backpack with black cords, two pairs of leather boots – one pair size 7 Artica black boots, and one pair of tall black Rieker boots, a tall, approximately eight-inch, Hitachi flashlight, a new pair of skates in a blue and white box and a down-filled grey ski jacket with a pink stripe across the front.

Canmore RCMP officials confirmed Scott filed a report about the theft and officers are investigating the complaint. Officials noted there were no other thefts on the street that they are aware of.

Sgt. Stan Andronyk with the Canmore RCMP said anyone with any information is encouraged to call the local detachment or Crime Stoppers.

"If anyone has any information they can contact us, or if they want to return the stolen items, they are encouraged to bring the items back to the detachment," Andronyk said.

The Canmore detachment is located at 101 Elk Run Boulevard and anyone with information can contact officers at 403-678-5516, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Scott said she would be happy just to get the sentimental stuff back.

"Even if they just [brought back] my son's personal items, I would appreciate it."
