The weather alert indicated heavy snow is expected to develop through out the region – including near Canmore, Exshaw, Ghost Village and Kananaskis Village.

The warning stated that higher amounts of snowfall up to 50 cm could fall in higher elevations, with heavy snow expected to taper off on Wednesday.

"Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult," stated Environment Canada's warning. "Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow."
