CANMORE – A teenage girl suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning (April 21).

The Canmore RCMP said they received a call for a collision between a cyclist and vehicle at the Bow Valley Trail and Railway Avenue intersection at about 8:15 a.m.

The vehicle was turning right from Railway Avenue onto Bow Valley Trail with the green light when it hit the 14-year-old riding her bike across Bow Valley Trail in the crosswalk.

The police said a pedestrian walking was also nearly struck by the vehicle and the crosswalk was activated at the time. RCMP added sun glare may have been a factor, and the collision is still under investigation.

The Canmore RCMP also noted with the weather improving and more people cycling, all people are responsible for one another’s safety.

“Vehicle drivers and bicyclists all have a responsibility to adhere to the rules of the road and to drive/ride responsibly to ensure the safety of all road users,” the release stated.

"If visibility is affected by sun glare, or any other environmental factor, it is still the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are proceeding safely.”

The police said they’ll be doing patrols and conducting education and enforcement initiatives at surrounding crosswalks in Canmore.
