Spring is arriving around the country, and with it comes more outdoor time and plenty of road trip opportunities. Winter is rough on your ride, and when the temperature starts to rise, it's essential to dive in for some cleaning.

Remove Clutter
The first step in the process is removing clutter and organizing items you want to keep inside your ride. Throw away all trash, and remove anything that isn’t essential.
It’s still important to keep safety gear on hand (think jumper cables, first aid kit, extra water, non-perishable snacks, etc.), but winter preparedness kits and items like blankets can be transferred to the garage or trunk. Keeping up with clutter during the winter months can be a struggle, so take advantage of the nice weather and get organized.
Hit the Car Wash
The exterior of your vehicle is most susceptible to damage during the winter months. Road treatments like salt can wreak havoc on your undercarriage, and rust damage is typical in areas with heavy winter precipitation.
Make sure to hit the car wash at least once when warmer weather has arrived, and spend extra time to get a thorough cleaning. Focus on your wheels and undercarriage to prevent corrosion and rust from developing. Be sure to drive your vehicle after washing, as rust can form if you let it sit.

Carpet and upholstery can be damaged just as easily as your exterior from winter road treatments. Spend some extra time vacuuming out your car, and don’t forget to reach under the seats and behind the pedals.
Take out floor mats and use a wet cloth to remove any mud, dirt, or salt buildup. Sometimes, a stiff brush can help get rid of hard to remove stains. Using a softer brush on your seats will remove dust and make vacuuming more complete.

Scheduling oil changes in the spring will have you ready for summer’s high temperatures and potential vacations. Many mechanic shops also offer detailing services, so check off multiple boxes from your list with one easy trip!
Pop the Hood
One of the most overlooked areas when cleaning a vehicle is under the hood. A surprising amount of dirt, dust, and debris like autumn leaves can become trapped and turn dangerous if not addressed.
Make sure to check under your vehicle’s hood each spring and carefully clean it out to keep your engine and heating and cooling systems operating at max capacity. Pressurized air is excellent for removing dirt and dust, and water works, too, if you don’t go overboard.
Window Washing
Front and back windshields get plenty of attention, but how often do you think about your vehicle’s windows? The glass quickly becomes dirty during the cleaning process, and you’ll want to save it for the end of your spring cleaning day.
Keep a microfiber cloth in your glove box for easy window wiping. And skip the glass cleaner as many products are too powerful and can damage the glass. Roll down your windows and clean the weather stripping to prevent build-up and potential glass damage.
