ALBERTA – COVID-19 hospitalization rates in Alberta continue to slowly decrease.
The province reported on Sunday (May 24) that there are 46 people with confirmed cases of the coronavirus in hospital, six of whom are in intensive care units.
There have been 42 new cases of the virus identified, bringing the provincial total of active cases to 801.
A total of 5,924 Albertans have recovered from the virus.
No new deaths were reported. There have been 135 COVD-19 related deaths in Alberta.
Albertans are encouraged to download the ABTraceTogether app to help enhance contract tracing of the virus to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In Alberta 624 cases have an unknown source of exposure.
The use of the app is voluntary, and it does not trace users' physical location, or use GPS. The app currently has 190,321 registered users.
The province has said contact tracing of the virus will be essential for Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy.
Albertans can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by practicing social distancing and good hygiene.
Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, which include cough, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath and runny nose are eligible for testing. An online self-assessment tool to set up a COVID-19 test.
The next provincial update from Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will take place on Monday (May 25).
