Eden Valley councillor's father, father in law attended residential schools

On June 1, the team unveiled its new Edmonton Elks branding, 10 months after the team agreed to change its name from the Eskimos — a racial slur against Inuit peoples. 

Seventy-three of the 430 children who attended Dunbow Industrial School (also known as St. Joseph's Industrial School) died during its 38 years of operation.

People of all ages – Indigenous and non-indigenous alike – prayed, spoke their truth and wept as drummers drummed next to the 215 pairs of children’s shoes which filled the inner circle of the Tepee.

Schools and public memorials are being renamed in Alberta, Manitoba, Ottawa, and so on.

Members of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation recognized the 215 children found in a mass grave at the former Kamloops Residential School by tying 215 teddy bears to a fence along the Trans-Canada Highway.
