ROCKY VIEW COUNTY— Cochrane RCMP responded to a report that a plane had crashed on the Harmony Golf Course near the Springbank Airport at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Sunday (May 30).

“At 4:55 p.m. we received a call of an aircraft crash at the Harmony Golf Course just outside of the Springbank Airport. Early details report that a Cessna lost engine power on approach and did an emergency landing on the golf course itself,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Cochrane RCMP. “There were three people inside the plane, nobody had any injuries and the plane had minor damage.”

Savinkoff said that Transport Canada and the National Transportation Safety Board took over the investigation after Cochrane RCMP’s initial involvement.

Although the incident is technically classified as a crash, Savinkoff said he believes that it was a bumpy, but controlled landing.

“It didn’t land on a runway so you would consider it a crash, however, I believe it was a controlled landing short of the airport, ultimately,” he said.

He noted there was only minor damage to the golf course where the plane went nose-in on the grass.
