One dead, one man in critical condition in Field, B.C. car crash

FIELD, B.C. – One man is dead and one man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a vehicle accident on Highway 1, Saturday morning (Feb. 5) near the Alberta and British Columbia border.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) confirmed the deadly incident near Field, B.C., approximately 30 kilometres west of Lake Louise, Alta.

"One of those Banff [EMS] units did transport one person in critical, life-threatening condition ... beyond that, I can confirm there was one person at the scene who was declared deceased," said Helene Hamilton, acting public education officer with AHS.

STARS air ambulance responded at approximately 11 a.m. and transported the man from Banff Mineral Springs Hospital to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

His current condition is unknown.

B.C. RCMP said the collision was between a commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle just west of Field.
