KOOTENAY - Three people are in hospital following a head-on collision on Highway 93S in Kootenay National Park, B.C. near the Alberta border on Friday (Aug.16).
Mark Oddan, a STARS spokesperson, said the air ambulance responded to a two-vehicle collision with multiple patients in the Castle Junction area, approximately 30 kilometres west of Banff, at around 5:30 p.m.
"We transported a 65 year-old female in critical condition to Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary," Oddan wrote, in an email.
As of Saturday (Aug. 17) at 11 a.m., Alberta Health Services (AHS) did not have an update on her condition.
Adam Loria, AHS spokesperson, said two others suffered non life threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals by ground ambulances.
A female in her late teens had serious injuries and was taken to Foothills Medical Centre and a man with minor injuries was transported to Banff Mineral Springs hospital.
On Twitter, 511 Alberta, which gives up-to-date highway conditions and safety information, wrote Highway 93S reopened at 1:14 a.m. this morning. The highway was closed for roughly eight hours 3.4 kilometres south of Paint Pots while emergency crews were on scene.
