Canada Day parade route changing

For almost 30 years, the Canada Day parade along Canmore’s Main Street has remained the same.

For almost 30 years, the Canada Day parade along Canmore’s Main Street has remained the same.

A lot has changed in the community over the three decades, though, including traffic patterns and volumes and this year, the Canada Day committee felt it was time to consider changing the parade route based on feedback from residents.

The parade will begin at the corner of Fairholme Drive and 15th Street at noon, turning left on Main Street and finishing at Railway Avenue.

From that point, the parade will disband and return via Seventh Avenue to the original marshaling area while the marching bands will make their way to Centennial Park.

The new route allows for a longer parade and provides an opportunity for residents at the Bow River Seniors Lodge to watch the event from the comfort of their own homes.

The parade is expected to last approximately 1.5 hours and Chris Bartolomie, supervisor of arts and culture for the Town, said seven bands have already confirmed their attendance.
