Canmore Staff to help Slave Lake efforts

An appeal to help the Town of Slave Lake with rebuilding efforts has seen Canmore provide a roster of employees willing to help out.

An appeal to help the Town of Slave Lake with rebuilding efforts has seen Canmore provide a roster of employees willing to help out.

Deputy chief administrative officer Lisa de Soto, who has also put her name forward, presented the list of staff to council last week.

She explained Municipal Affairs, in an effort to draw expertise and talent to help the town rebuild, made the request to all municipalities to identify key staff members who could be posted to Slave Lake on a rotational basis.

“The need in Slave Lake still exists and will exist for some time,” de Soto said, adding 30 municipalities have provided lists and postings can be from three days to a couple weeks.

A list of 26 town staff willing to be part of the effort was provided to council.

“We felt we got an excellent response,” de Soto said. “Many employees are willing to help and looked at it as an opportunity.”

She said municipal affairs and Slave Lake will determine what positions can be filled and it is expected only one employee from each jurisdiction will be asked.

“It is up to managers at the Town of Canmore to make sure the workload is achievable here first before agreeing to a posting,” de Soto added.
