An information session featuring experts from Parks Canada and Canadian Pacific will be held at Harkin Hall at Banff National Park administration building on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
The free session will feature presentations on the challenges of being a bear in the central Rockies’ ecosystem and the difficulties faced in reducing bear/train collisions.
Officials will present a draft research plan and information on the research grant program designed to engage outside experts in developing solutions for bear/train collisions. After the presentations, audience members are invited to speak with experts on specific topics.
Parks and CP launched the first Railway-Bear Conflict Mitigation Symposium in Banff on Sept. 28-29.
Complementing the five-year Joint Action Plan announced last fall, symposium attendees will be encouraged to augment the draft research plan which aims to contribute to the reduction of rail-related bear mortality in Banff and Yoho national parks.
