Foundation looking for new director

Facing a future filled with increased needs at the local hospital, the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation is looking for a new executive director.

Facing a future filled with increased needs at the local hospital, the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation is looking for a new executive director.

Foundation board chair Gary Montgomery said in addition to future needs at the hospital, a new executive director would be responsible for establishing an endowment fund.

“The hospital is growing,” he said. “We have looked at our needs and how to get there and build in sustainability as well.

“What we are looking for is to bring in new people with new ideas.”

Current co-executive directors Ron and Paula Remple will complete their contract with the foundation as of Oct. 31.

Montgomery said the move to find new leadership for the organization is not a reflection on the work of the Remples, who he said have been enthusiastic and remarkable in leading it since it began nine years ago.

“We have evolved as an organization,” he said, adding the future will be focused on fundraising. “Our responsibility is to the community and the people who provide donations to the hospital and look to us to manage these funds in the best way possible.”

The Foundation raises funds to provide Canmore General Hospital with equipment not provided by the Alberta provincial health care budget.

Over the past seven years it has purchased over $2 million in equipment and funded an expansion of the cancer clinic.

It is currently looking at a campaign to fundraise $800,000 to refurbish the emergency room. This year’s goal includes raising $400,000 of that and establishing a $100,000 endowment fund with the goal to increase the fund to $5 million.

Those interested in more information about the position can contact the foundation at [email protected] or 403-678-8745.
