Hostel planned for The Shops

CANMORE – It’s still early in the development but Canmore is soon going to play host to a new hostel being built at The Shops of Canmore site.

Carlos Rodriguez, owner of the Jasper Downtown Hostel and developer of the upcoming Canmore Downtown Hostel, thinks the proposed development is a good boost for Canmore.

“I just thought there was a need for more hostels in Canmore, and we are really excited to build there. It’s a great location,” said Rodriguez.

The building is expected to be completed next year and when finished will have about 80 beds with rooms ranging from stacked bunks to private rooms.

Costs are a tentative $40-$150 per night to stay in the hostel, however, those are subject to change between now and the completion date.

Rodriguez stressed that the location was chosen for its convenience for travellers. He found that when travellers were staying in his Jasper-based hostel, often their next destination was Banff or Canmore.

According to Rodriguez, he wanted to link the two hostels to provide a convenient experience for travellers who have multi-location travel plans.

The Shops of Canmore is under development at 300 Old Canmore Road next to the Grizzly Paw Brewery and is being developed by Neil Tanner and Tanner Properties.
