Canadian comedic actor and writer Eugene Levy will be honoured this June at the Banff World Media Festival.

Canadian comedic actor and writer Eugene Levy will be honoured this June at the Banff World Media Festival.

The character actor and comedian will accept the prestigious award of excellence at this year’s festival, joining the ranks of past winners such as Victor Garber and Nigel Lythgoe.

Levy’s star turns include his unforgettable role as Jim’s dad in the hit American Pie franchise, and his work with Christopher Guest as co-writer and co-star in hilarious and award-winning mockumentaries like Best in Show and A Mighty Wind.

The Second City alumnus will also give a master class at the festival covering his career from the early years of SCTV to becoming a deadpan staple of blockbuster Hollywood comedies.

“Eugene Levy’s career has garnered him international acclaim and we are proud to be honouring him with this year’s Award of Excellence,” Ferne Cohen, executive director of the Banff festival said.

Past award winners include David Chase, Victor Garber, David Shore, Carol Mendelsohn, Dick Wolf and, last year, Nigel Lythgoe.

The 32nd edition of the Banff World Media Festival is set to run June 12-15 in the Canadian Rockies.
