Norway film crew needs extras for Wednesday shoot

For anyone who has had a dream to be on Norwegian TV, here’s your opportunity.

For anyone who has had a dream to be on Norwegian TV, here’s your opportunity.

A Norwegian film crew is looking for volunteers to participate as extras in an episode of the Norwegian program Uncle America, being filmed at the Canmore Nordic Centre on Wednesday (Jan. 10).

Each of the 10 episodes follows two Norwegian hosts – musicians and winners of the top Norwegian music award – as they travel through Canada and the U.S. tracking down a relative of a famous Norwegian, but along the way they experience interesting things and meet fascinating people in the places they visit.

As Norway did not take home any gold medals during the 1988 Calgary Winter, Stine Stenseth, of Feelgood Scene Film og TV, said the hosts of Uncle America plan on changing that.

Stenseth said they’re holding their own Olympics in Canmore, featuring a barefoot ice-running event with the hope that one of the hosts, who holds the Guinness Book of World Records for barefoot ice running, will win a race against Finland, Sweden, Russia and Canada.

“We hope one of our guys gets the gold from this competition so they can go home to Norway with gold. If they don’t, it will be terrible,” Stenseth said, laughing.

And given they are “re-creating” the ‘88 Winter Olympics, Stenseth said she hopes that any former Olympic volunteers will come out and participate in their Olympic regalia and with their paraphernalia, including flags, banners and buttons.

But anyone with official Olympic volunteer clothing from the ’88 Calgary Winter Olympics is also welcome to be part of the on-screen audience.

The show itself is a parody and doesn’t take itself seriously, so Stenseth said to expect to have fun and be entertained.

Anyone interested in joining the filming as a volunteer is asked to meet in the parking lot at the Canmore Nordic Centre on Wednesday (Jan. 11) at noon or look for the camera crew.
