A Lake Louise resident is dead and another in serious condition after a vehicle went off Moraine Lake Road this weekend.

At approximately 4 a.m. Sunday morning (June 24) Lake Louise RCMP and fire department, Banff EMS and Parks Canada Mountain Safety personnel were called for a report of a single motor vehicle collision.

It took emergency crews time to find the exact location of the car accident on Moraine Lake Road near the Paradise Creek trailhead.

The 29-year-old male driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene while a 28-year-old male passenger sustained serious injuries that were not life threatening and taken to Banff Mineral Springs Hospital.

The Nissan Altima appeared to be traveling northbound on the road when it failed to negotiate a tight curve, leaving the road and going over an embankment into the trees below.

RCMP said alcohol is not believed to be a factor but speed and road conditions were.
