A 37-year-old man is in hospital after being airlifted from the scene of a single vehicle crash on Highway 1A, Tuesday (Oct. 20).

Emergency crews responded to a motorcyclist losing control and crashing near Jamieson Road in the MD of Bighorn around 5:10 p.m. STARS Air Ambulance transported the man to Calgary Foothills Medical Centre in “stable, non-life threatening condition,” said STARS spokesperson Fatima Khawaja.

The man suffered head, abdominal and leg injuries. No other injuries or vehicles involved were reported. Cochrane RCMP is investigating the incident. Sgt. Jeff Campbell said it appears rider error caused the accident and ruled out alcohol and speed as factors.

On Oct. 12, a motorcyclist suffered minor injuries following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1A, east of Exshaw. The motorcyclist attempted to pass the vehicle on a solid double yellow lines section of the two-lane highway. The passengers in the vehicle were uninjured.
