BANFF – The Banff Marathon is being pushed back to have a better chance at being held in the national park, said organizers.
Featuring a marathon, half marathon, and 10-kilometre races, the popular event is scheduled to take place Sept. 12, replacing the previous June 20 date.

“Given the continually changing environment of the pandemic and with vaccinations scheduled to ramp up substantially this spring/summer, it was decided that a postponement would significantly increase the opportunity to host the physical event,” a statement said.
“The organizing committee made the decision now to ensure that participants have as much time as possible to arrange for planning, travel, etc. and for any adjustments to their training preparation.”
A virtual format for Banff Marathon will take place between June 19 to Sept. 30.
Registration is open for the physical and virtual event.
Last year, the Banff Marathon moved to a virtual format after organizers cancelled race day in Banff National Park.
More than 2,000 participants signed up.
