Canmore biathlete heading to Youth Olympic games

Canmore’s Aidan Miller has been selected to be one of four young promising biathletes to participate in the inaugural Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria next January.

Canmore’s Aidan Miller has been selected to be one of four young promising biathletes to participate in the inaugural Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria next January.

Biathlon Canada made the announcement recently that Miller, Stuart Harden of Calgary, Sarah Beaudry of Prince George, B.C and Danielle Vrielink, also of Calgary will head overseas for the competition.

“This is an experienced group of young athletes that have made significant progress in our sport,” said executive director of Biathlon Canada Joanne Thompson.

“Competing in the Youth Olympic games will provide them with another opportunity for international competition to test their skills against the world’s best in their age group, while gaining more confidence while developing into elite athletes.”

Biathlon Canada selected the foursome due to their promising results over the past year.

Miller, 16, had two podium finishes at the Canadian championships this year, while Harden, who raced extensively in Canmore this year, is expected to perform well on the international stage. He won three medals at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax and represented Canada at the youth and junior world championship.

On the women’s side, both Beaudry and Vrielink represented Canada at the youth and junior championships. Beaudry also has two Canada Winter Games to her credit.

Details about the games are expected in the fall.
